Remote work can bolster your bottom line – if you have the right IT

Remote work can bolster your bottom line – if you have the right IT

According to the old conventional wisdom, the best way to invest in your business was to dedicate resources to workplace modernization. Better office technology meant a better business – or so the thinking went. But now, we’re seeing IT leadership start to rethink everything. Decision-makers now are wondering: What if what's actually best for your bottom line is to avoid investing in your office environment entirely?

It’s not as crazy as it sounds. Consider this: In a new report from Bloomberg News, research surfaced showing that remote work could be a massive boon for the economy, taming inflation and saving employers more than $200 billion in total. Around 40% of firms have expanded opportunities for their people to work remotely over the last 12 months, and a similar number plan to do the same in the next 12 months as well. And because people value the flexibility they get when working from home, we may see companies save money on labor costs, thus stabilizing the market for talent.

"This moderating influence lessens pressures and (modestly) eases the challenge facing monetary policy makers in their efforts to bring inflation down without stalling the economy," the report’s authors wrote.

The debate over remote work is playing out everywhere – and not all employers are in favor of it. As Bloomberg noted, Tesla chief Elon Musk famously told employees to return to the office or face termination; Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon has called the shift to remote work an "aberration” and not a permanent change. But at many other places of business, leaders are realizing the benefits of letting people work remotely. It can lead to a happier and more productive workforce, plus help your business trim fat from the budget as well.

But here’s the thing: For any of this to work, you need the right technology to support a remote workforce. And that’s where Zones comes in.
