Driving Sustainable Innovation Through Green Computing with Dell

Driving Sustainable Innovation Through Green Computing with Dell

The world is surging toward a climate catastrophe where global warming is expected to reach an irrecoverable state. In 2019, the world generated 53.6M metric tons of electronic waste, and it's expected to reach 74.7M metric tons by 2030. This vast increase in waste will damage the atmosphere and cause health problems.

Sustainable production and green technologies – and how they can curb climate change – are the need of the hour. The current approach of manufacturers discarding materials as waste is unsustainable. That's why businesses need to focus on green computing – where they can reduce their carbon footprint while sustaining profits. This is where Dell Technologies comes into the picture.

Dell Technologies is integrating sustainability into its core business strategy to deliver long-term value. Dell's purpose is to pioneer a technology that drives human progress and makes a difference for the present and future generations. This is clear in the new way Dell Technologies designs and packages products to help reduce environmental impact, waste, and emissions.

Dells Technologies implements a circular approach for its products to deliver value and uncover diverse opportunities. Through this circular approach, businesses can tackle resource use, ecological imbalance, and environmental loss by refurbishing, remarketing, and recycling products to keep them circling within the economy. The goal is to have as little waste as possible. When such approaches are used, e-waste no longer remains a waste as it's delivered back into the economy beneficially.

Latitude 5000 series – Taking sustainability beyond expectations

Dell's Latitude 5000 series laptops take sustainability beyond expectations. The components and packaging of Dell’s products are built with recycled materials, putting forward Dell's vision of significantly reducing environmental impact by 2030.

To achieve the 2030 Moonshot goal, Dell is accelerating progress on introducing packaging made from 100% recycled or renewable materials. This new packaging will include:

  • Paper-based packaging for power cords and documentation instead of traditional plastic packaging.
  • Recycled shipping box with specific components made from bamboo and sugar cane fiber-based pulp
  • Paper-derived tape to reduce the contamination of water streams

This new packaging will roll out across all new Latitude series laptops and other Dell devices, allowing your business to make an impact at scale.

Today, Dell's laptops bring together the world's most innovative use of sustainable materials. They are made from 71% recyclable material, including tree-based bioplastics, reclaimed carbon fiber, and post-consumer recycled plastic. The system's base is made from a bio-based rubber derived from castor oil, whereas the fan housing utilizes ocean-bound plastics. The Latitude 5000 series features 100% recycled or renewable packaging. This innovation helps reduce the product's carbon, water, and energy footprint.
