Healthcare organizations need hybrid cloud to reach their full potential

Over the last few years, we’ve witnessed a rapid change in the way patients, physicians, and healthcare providers create and use data. As the world discovers new patient care strategies, new approaches to remote and mobile care, and new communication channels, a proliferation of data is underway – and with it comes a need for data transformation. Organizations are looking for smart and efficient ways to manage data, secure it, and share it with the right people at the right times.

According to HealthTech Magazine, the hot trend right now is hybrid cloud. As organizations are tasked with managing rapidly expanding volumes of data, streaming in from a wide range of channels, hybrid cloud technology gives them the highest degree of flexibility and scalability, helping them manage data in user-friendly ways that would be impossible to replicate on-premises. Scott Raymond, CIO of global healthcare at NetApp, told the publication that hybrid cloud is uniquely qualified for the job.

“If it’s all on one platform, it’s just easier to manage,” Raymond said. “In a hybrid solution, I can manage the data in the cloud the same way I do in my data center, and I can literally drag and drop workloads and move them seamlessly across the cloud through a private cloud and back on-premises.”

To truly make the most of hybrid cloud technology, there are a couple of key steps that any healthcare organization should take. The first is to take a critical look at right-sizing their environment – by doing away with data infrastructures you’re not using and optimizing those that matter most, you can fine-tune your budget and get the best value from your investment. Secondly, having a deep understanding of your new cloud environment is crucial. This will help you assess each cloud application individually, sizing up whether it should be cloud-native or could simply “lift and shift” from your old data architecture to your new cloud platform.

For all of this and more, Zones is here to help. And here’s the thing about us: We’re a cloud migrant ourselves. We know exactly what it takes to move your business from a legacy data architecture to a new, cloud-centric environment, because we’ve gone through that transition at Zones, and we’ve come out better and stronger as a result.
