If you’ve been following the latest tech trends, you surely know by now: The new iPhone 11s are out, and they’re set to revolutionize the smartphone game. These latest models come with a whole host of improvements that will raise the bar for device manufacturers everywhere. Apple is rolling out a sleeker design, faster performance, a better camera, longer battery life, and much more.
The new iPhone also includes one key feature that should change everything when it comes to network optimization. That, of course, would be Wi-Fi 6 – a new standard for wireless access that’s expected to dramatically improve the overall quality of experience for users everywhere.
What exactly is Wi-Fi 6, you ask? Good question. There’s a lot of technical mumbo-jumbo behind it, but the essence is, it’s a new standard for wireless network transmission that’s more efficient than ever before. The previous Wi-Fi standard, known as 802.11ac, is still a viable option for many users, but Wi-Fi 6 represents a major improvement because it will provide better performance in congested areas. This means that if hundreds or even thousands of people are trying to connect to a network simultaneously, they can all get the performance they need.
Wi-Fi 6 is expected to bring major improvements for wireless users. CNET has estimated that people’s connections will be roughly 30% faster now than under the previous standard, with maximum transfer speeds that could be upwards of 10 gigabits per second. TechSpot noted that in addition to raw speed, Wi-Fi 6 is expected to bring about all sorts of side benefits, including the fact that it’s backwards-compatible – this means it will work seamlessly with many of the routers and other devices that are commonly used in the world today.
All of this sounds great, right? But here’s the thing: Wi-Fi 6 may not be the right choice for your business at this time. Making the transition from an 802.11ac Wave 2 network to a Wi-Fi 6 platform may or may not make sense depending on your traffic types, number and types of users, and RF environment. So is it worth doing right now, or are you better off sticking to the old standard for the time being? Honestly, the best answer is “it depends.” Everything hinges on the specific needs of your organization.
At Zones, we have the expertise required to figure that out. We have a team of specialists focused on offering the best Wired & Wireless Networking services that money can buy. Wi-Fi 6 is here, and it’s time to adjust your business’ plans accordingly.
