In a prior generation, educating students at the K-12 level was largely a matter of simply ordering the right textbooks and teaching the material on the page. Times are changing now, though. Today, education often comes down to network optimization. That’s because students don’t want to learn via traditional methods anymore – they want sleek, modern ways of absorbing educational material, and schools must have the right networks in place to deliver them.
A digital revolution is taking place in the world of education as we speak. According to research from Cisco, 75% of teachers believe that digital learning content will totally replace printed textbooks within the next 10 years. And this digital content is coming from a wide range of devices – 54% say that laptop and desktop computers have come in handy in the classroom, along with 51% for tablets, 45% for interactive white boards, and 28% for smartphones. Technology in all its forms is taking over.
Replacing traditional textbooks with more high-tech learning methods brings many benefits. For example, Cisco found that 74% of educators believe introducing educational technology motivates students to learn more, and 73% say that students respond to a variety of learning methods rather than sticking to just one. Additionally, 65% agreed that technology can help them demonstrate concepts that they can’t otherwise. Given all this, there’s no question that investing in technology is worth doing for school districts.
With that said, there are challenges that arise for school districts trying to implement a new high-tech approach to learning. One is finding the right devices and procuring them at the right price points; another is handling device implementation and troubleshooting for users who have initial hiccups. And of course, security is always a concern – Cisco noted that at least 315 cybersecurity-related incidents have been reported at K-12 public school districts in the U.S. within the last two years.
When you consider all of the above concerns, it becomes clear: You’ve got to have an IT partner you can trust to guide you through the process. And at Zones, we’re proud to say that we can be that partner. We offer a Wireless Network Design & Implementation service that can help you with every step of getting your network set up, from the initial ideation to the actual deployment of new devices in the classroom.
There’s been an explosion of connected devices in schools in recent years.
