The thing about workplace modernization is it’s a never-ending project. You can never truly modernize the office once and be done with it; the office will always keep evolving. New devices are going to keep coming out, and people are always going to demand the latest and greatest technology at work. For IT managers, the challenge is to be constantly on top of this evolution, procuring the newest devices and doling them out to the employees who need them most.
But do you have the resources in house to handle all this yourself? You might not – most of our customers struggle finding qualified talent at a reasonable cost. Outfitting employees with the IT tools they need is a many-faceted challenge. You’ve got to start by supporting the right devices in the first place; from there, you’re faced with finding the right prices, obtaining devices, getting them set up, managing them, and delivering service when your employees need it. All in all, it’s a lot to deal with.
If you feel like you can’t deal with it all, you’re certainly not alone. According to Spiceworks, this is a common feeling. The company recently released its 2019 report on the “State of Hardware as a Service,” where researchers looked at the pros and cons of companies getting IT help on an “as a service” basis rather than handling all their management responsibilities in house. The survey results were convincing – 48% of businesses today are leasing at least one type of hardware for their employees, and of those 48%, half are using the “as a service” model for at least one type of device. An additional 6% plan to do so within the next two years.
“Providers will have the most success targeting businesses that lack the manpower or geographic reach to adequately service devices in house, in addition to businesses that are already sold on the leasing model,” Spiceworks analyst Peter Tsai said. “Considering the IT leasing and financing market is estimated to be a $234 billion industry, even small shifts in buyer behavior can add up.”
When you invest in getting IT help as a service, you’ll find a world of possibilities open up. Suddenly, your IT staff will have far less on their plate as far as procuring, managing, and troubleshooting devices. Spiceworks found that 71% of companies that use the approach report reductions in the amount of time and resources required from their IT teams. Specifically, they identified “troubleshooting and support,” “setup and maintenance of devices,” and “reduction in the amount of obsolete technology in the workplace” as tasks that become easier.
When you reduce the burden on your workforce, what happens is you free your team up to focus on other, more ambitious projects. Less time devoted to IT busywork means more time for advancing your business. Are you ready to develop new products or services? Launch a new corporate initiative like a marketing campaign?
